An
Avenue is a path that ultimately leads to a main street.
This is a picture of the particular process that we as young
adults all share. We all find ourselves somewhere along that
“avenue,” determining our call in life, our major, our
career, our mate- our direction! Perhaps we even find
ourselves merging into that “main street” as we take those
beginning steps of marriage, career, or parenthood.
Regardless, The Avenue Young Adult’s Ministry serves as a
community where young adults (such as my wife and I) come
together to recognize these approaching or new realities,
that we might adopt and establish their sole purpose. That
purpose is to truly know and love God, so that others may
also.
 We
want to seek to understand the Word of God that is free of
the cultural patterns of modern day Christianity, but
embraces the truth and grit that accompanies the sacrificial
love of a Savior. We
want to consider the cultures, doctrine, and approaches of
old and new, and define their weight as measured by
THE BIBLE. We want the
Presence of God that is intruding and the Revelation of Him
that is challenging.
Our
faith in Christ is not simply a sweeping consent to
an ideology, but a call to carry a cross. We
are convinced that in order to love God, we must
also love people.
Knowing
this, we move to feed the hungry, clothe the naked,
rescue the enslaved, and house the unfortunate.
We seek to be free of the confines of casual
Christianity by adhering to a faith that integrates
it's BELIEFS into
ACTION.
 We
believe in the church as one united body, diverse in
it's composition of culture and generation.
Biblically, this vision of an intergenerational
church is best achieved through mentoring. We
find it essential to the process of incorporating
values, truth, and wisdom into the life of the
mentored. This Biblical principle has greatly
dwindled amongst our individualistic culture, and we
wish to see it restored.
 We
fully embrace efforts to Biblically express the
Glory of God in this world through varying creative,
and artistic mediums. Art is a powerful means
to the revelation of God, as seen in the Psalms of
David, and the beauty of creation. We also
recognize our own ability and desire for creativity
as proof of being made in His Holy Image.
Therefore,
we embrace this creative nature in song and dance,
and the various visual forms of art, all for the
sake of revering the Only True Creator, and making
His Name known. |
